Imagine this: you finally have half an hour to yourself this evening. You open your laptop and think: now I can work on my business.
You open your website. Spot a sentence that could be better. Change it. Then look for a photo. Somewhere along the way, you remember that you should probably post on Instagram too.
Half an hour later, you close the laptop. You have been busy, but the post you wanted to share still is not online.
And perhaps your conclusion is: there I go again, getting nothing done.
But what, exactly, needed to be finished tonight?
‘Work on my business’ had no clear finish line. It could mean a post, an entire website, a new offer or all of them at once. However much you did, there was always more.
Making the first step smaller helps. Today, we take it a little further: we decide what completing that step will look like.
Imagine writing this before opening your laptop: Today, it is done when my post with one insight and one question is live.
Now you do not need to organise a new photo shoot during those thirty minutes. You choose a photo you already have. Write about one thing your reader recognises. Read it through and press publish.
The discomfort may still be there. You might wonder: is this interesting enough? But that question does not have to take over the agreement you made.
The difference is one visible outcome. At the end, you can say: the post is online.
You do not need to run a business for this to apply. ‘Sort out my paperwork’ becomes: pay that one invoice. ‘Choose myself’ becomes: reply to that request and say I cannot take it on this week.
Choose one task that keeps feeling large and vague. Complete this sentence: Today, it is done when …
Choose an outcome you can reach in ten to fifteen minutes. If it will take longer, choose one complete part: request the appointment, rather than solve the entire problem.
This is a small way to practise self-leadership: make an agreement with yourself that you can carry out and recognise.
Inside Elevate Together, you can share your finish line. Just one sentence: today, it is done when …
